The Georgianna E. Herman Reference Room


The Herman Reference Room is one of a small number of comprehensive reference libraries that specialize in human resource management and labor relations. Located in Room 280 in the Humphrey Center on the West Bank of the University of Minnesota, the room is open to students, faculty, the professional community, and the public. Materials are non-circulating.

The collection specializes in the 5 areas of the Minnesota Model of Human Resources and Industrial Relations:

• Labor Market Analysis
• Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining

 

The library provides information on a wide range of topics, including recruitment, training, compensation, job satisfaction, motivation, stress, drug testing, strategic management, effects of technological change, mergers, diversity, labor relations, unions, organizational socialization, absenteeism, and turnover.


In addition to books, the library maintains subscriptions to more than 100 professional journals and includes many loose-leaf reporting services, labor union newspapers, newsletters, working papers, court cases, arbitration awards, federal and state laws, theses, and pamphlets.
