Staffing, Training, and Development

The first pillar of the Minnesota Model of HRIR is staffing, training, and development. In addition to studying how organizations select, train, and develop employees, students who specialize in this area examine how organizations attract employees, how employees choose organizations, individual career routes, and the challenges people experience during their working lives.

Specific areas of study include:

  • What are the different methods organizations use in helping to select employees and what criteria should be used in hiring?
  • How valid are different selection methods when selecting employees and are such methods potentially biased against various minority groups and females?
  • How can organizations add value to their employees through training and development?
  • How successful are job placement and counseling programs in bringing the unemployed back into the labor force?
